Background
Victoria Surma is an attending physician in the pediatric cardiac intensive care unit at Johns Hopkins Children’s Center. She is also the associate medical director of the extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) program at the Children’s Center.
A graduate of the Temple University medical school, Dr. Surma completed a pediatrics residency at the University of Virginia and later finished fellowships in pediatric critical care medicine at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine and in pediatric cardiology at Children’s National Hospital.

Research Summary
Dr. Surma’s research focuses on the effect of red blood cell transfusion on cerebral oxygen delivery for pediatric patients while on ECMO and after cardiac surgery.
