Background
Dr. Romsai Tony Boonyasai is an associate professor of medicine at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. His clinical expertise is in internal medicine. Dr. Boonyasai is an expert on implementing chronic disease improvement programs. He has particular expertise in building programs for improving hypertension control in low-resource settings and for ensuring safe transitions between hospitals and community-based settings.
He earned his M.D. from the Mount Sinai School of Medicine. He performed his residency at Baylor College of Medicine and a fellowship in internal medicine at Johns Hopkins. He completed an M.P.H. at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health.
Dr. Boonyasai served as medical director of the Johns Hopkins Patient Access Line program. As a board member of Baltimore CONNECT, a partnership between Johns Hopkins and East Baltimore community organizations, he helps community-based leaders work with Johns Hopkins Medicine to improve the lives of all people in Baltimore.

- Research in the Romsai Boonyasai Lab focuses on systems-based approaches for improving health care quality, including reducing harm during care transitions after hospital discharge and improving outcomes related to hypertension and other chronic diseases. We recently have focused on developing and evaluating practice-based tools for improving the accuracy of blood pressure measurement, overcoming clinical inertia to treatment, and engaging patients in self-management of their health.
