Background
An associate professor of medicine, and the L. Douglas Lee and Barbara Levinson-Lee Professorship in Clinical Practice, Steven J. Kravet, M.D., M.B.A., serves as president of the largest primary care group in Maryland, Johns Hopkins Community Physicians; a network of suburban community practices that serves more than 900,000 patients annually at more than 40 locations throughout Maryland, Washington, D.C., and Northern Virginia.
A third-generation pharmacist and community health care advocate who prizes the relationships that develop between patients and care-givers, Dr. Kravet has spent more than two decades at Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center, providing strong leadership in a wide variety of community health services. Before being named president of Johns Hopkins Community Physicians in 2009, Dr. Kravet served as medical director of inpatient medical services, internal medicine and ambulatory services, as well as chief medical officer for quality and patient safety, and deputy director for clinical activity in the Department of Medicine at Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center. As a member of the faculty in the Division of General Internal Medicine, he has obtained invaluable insights into the practical realities of primary care. Having earned an M.B.A. in Johns Hopkins’ Business of Medicine program, he has an excellent understanding of the business issues affecting outpatient care. The American College of Physicians has used Dr. Kravet’s research on primary care processes to formulate plans for redesigning health care practices.
After receiving his pharmacist degree from the Rutgers University College of Pharmacy in 1988, Dr. Kravet ran his family’s pharmacy in Spotswood, N.J., until 1992, during which time he worked on obtaining his medical degree from the Robert Wood Johnson Medical School. He arrived at Johns Hopkins Bayview as a resident in 1992 and has spent his entire career at Johns Hopkins. Among his honors are the Resident Teaching Award and the Department of Medicine Chairman’s Award.
Dr. Kravet practices all aspects of primary care medicine, including prevention and cortisone shots.

Dr. Steve Kravet is knowledgeable, understands his patient's needs and communicates with sincerity. He cares about my health, and obviously spends time reviewing my medical history prior to my visits. Dr. Kravet answers every question and clearly outlines his treatment plan and reasons for any referrals. He treats me as a partner in aiming for optimal health. Hopkins is fortunate to have such an excellent physician.

I have just answered questions pertaining to the services we received from Dr Steve Kravet utilizing your scale of 1 to 10 which is the highest rating. Dr Kravet has been taking care of my wife and myself for almost 25 years. I can honestly state that if the highest and best rating was 1,000,000 his rating would far exceed that. We are very blessed and appreciative of everything Dr Kravet has done for us. I hope and pray that Johns Hopkins is also gratified for Dr Kravet, who is a wonderful person and major asset to the medical community.

Steve Kravet has been my primary care physician for the past 25 years. He is so knowledgeable, caring, proficient, steadfast and unselfish doctor. He will go out of his way to set up care with specialists for me, call me with testing results, answer questions, and respond to me on his own time, no matter what day of the week. He is amazing!
