Background

Pediatric neurologist Stephanie Morris specializes in caring for children with complex developmental, behavioral and neurological conditions, including autism spectrum disorder, developmental delay, attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and genetic conditions such as neurofibromatosis. She holds joint appointments at Kennedy Krieger Institute and the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine.

After she earned her medical degree from the University of Arizona College of Medicine, Dr. Morris completed residency training in child neurology at Washington University in St. Louis.

Dr. Morris serves as medical director of the Center for Autism Services, Science and Innovation at Kennedy Krieger Institute, where she leads a multidisciplinary team focused on providing comprehensive individualized care for children with neurodevelopmental differences. She works closely with families to better understand each child’s strengths and challenges and to develop thoughtful, practical treatment plans.

She also directs the Pediatric Neurofibromatosis Program at Kennedy Krieger Institute, where she provides longitudinal care for children with neurofibromatosis and related conditions. Her approach emphasizes early identification of developmental challenges, coordination across specialists, and long-term support as children grow and develop.

Before joining Kennedy Krieger Institute, Dr. Morris was on faculty at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, where she helped lead multidisciplinary programs for children with neurogenetic and neurodevelopmental conditions.

Dr. Morris is particularly interested in helping families navigate complex diagnoses and ensuring children receive coordinated care that addresses their medical, developmental and behavioral needs. She is committed to partnering with families and referring providers to support children across development, from early childhood through adolescence.

  • Neurobehavior outcomes in neurogenetic conditions
  • Neurofibromatosis Type 1 (NF1)
  • Fragile X syndrome
  • Developmentally informed clinical trials

Research Summary

Dr. Morris’ research focused on understanding neurodevelopmental outcomes in children with neurogenetic conditions, particularly in NF1 and Fragile X syndrome. Her work integrates clinical phenotyping, longitudinal developmental data, and translational research approaches to improve therapeutic development.

She is particularly interested in developmentally informed clinical trial design and identifying mechanistically meaningful neurobehavioral endpoints to improve treatment success. Her research aims to bridge clinical care and translational science to accelerate therapeutic discovery and improve outcomes for children with neurodevelopmental disorders.
