Background

Dr. Sarah Hougen Poggi is an associate professor of gynecology and obstetrics at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine based at Sibley Memorial Hospital. She obtained an undergraduate degree in geology and geophysics from Princeton University and after graduating from the Yale School of Medicine and completing a residency in obstetrics and gynecology at the UCLA Center for Health Services, Dr. Poggi finished her educational training with a maternal-fetal medicine fellowship at the Georgetown University Hospital.

Dr. Poggi’s research interests include shoulder dystocia, cervical insufficiency and biomineralization. In addition, her clinical interests include prenatal ultrasound diagnosis, multiple gestations, medical disease in pregnancy and caring for patients with prior complicated pregnancies. Dr. Poggi was named one of Northern Virginia’s “Best Doctors” consecutively from 2010-2022 and has received the Castle Conolly “Top Doctor” award each year since 2016. She is proud to have participated in multi-disciplinary teaching trips with Kybele, a non-profit organization dedicated to improve childbirth safety, to Egypt, Ghana, Bosnia and Serbia. She is a member of the Society for Maternal-Fetal Medicine, a fellow of the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology and a diplomat of the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology.
