Background

Sarah C. Collica, M.D., is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences. She directs the Young Adult Mood Disorders Inpatient Unit and Outpatient Mood Disorders Consultation Clinic. She received her B.S. from Yale University and her M.D. from the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine where she completed her psychiatry residency and served as chief resident. She then pursued the Alexander Wilson Schweizer Fellow in Mood Disorders at Johns Hopkins in order to become a clinical expert in the diagnosis and treatment of complex cases of major depression and bipolar disorders. This fellowship set the foundation for her research interests in the treatment of patients with mood disorders focusing on clinical outcomes in the inpatient and outpatient setting. She aims to collect data that will lead to the systematic study of and improvement in the delivery of psychiatric care. Dr. Collica is committed to educating youth on mood disorders, and she is a co-investigator in the Adolescent Depression Awareness Program (ADAP). This is a depression literacy program for high school students developed at Johns Hopkins by Dr. Karen Swartz. Dr. Collica is also part of the team developing ADAP Junior for middle school students and is leading the international expansion of the program.
