Dr. Ngamruengphong earned a medical degree from Chulalongkorn University and completed residency training at the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center. She undertook fellowship training in gastroenterology at the Mayo School of Graduate Medical Education and further fellowship training in therapeutic endoscopy at The Johns Hopkins Hospital.

Her research interests include endoscopic resection and the management of precancerous or cancerous gastrointestinal lesions.

Dr. Ngamruengphong is a member of several professional organizations, including the Thai Medical Council, the American College of Gastroenterology and the American Gastroenterological Association.

  • Research in the Saowanee Ngamruengphong Lab focuses on methods for diagnosing and managing gastrointestinal conditions, including premalignant and malignant lesions of the gastrointestinal tract, esophageal cancer, colon polyps, and biliary and pancreatic disease. Our most recent work includes investigating a novel hybrid technique for closure of refractory gastrocutaneous fistula. We also conducted an international multicenter study that compared endoscopic ultrasound-guided pancreatic duct drainage with enteroscopy-assisted endoscopic retrograde pancreatography following Whipple surgery.

    Dr Ngamruengphong is a Sixth Sigma Surgeon bringing a Specialized Procedure to the area but is realistic about the pros and cons and though very positive she did not raise unrealistic expectations she was clear eyed about the risks and careful to mention rewards without hyperbole given her amazing reputation.
