About Sangkyun Cho
Background
Dr. Sangkyun Cho is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Chemical & Biomolecular Engineering with a secondary appointment in the Department of Biomedical Engineering. He is a core faculty member of the Institute for NanoBioTechnology and the Center for Microphysiological Systems. His research brings together tissue and biomaterials engineering, multi-omics, and molecular biology to better understand and treat fibrosis—a major driver of pathology and aging of nearly all of our solid organs. His lab is particularly interested in the development of new precision therapies against fibrosis-associated conditions, including cardiovascular disease and cancer.
Dr. Cho earned his bachelor's degree from Johns Hopkins University and his PhD from the University of Pennsylvania. He completed postdoctoral training at Stanford University School of Medicine before returning to Johns Hopkins University as faculty in 2025. He is the recipient of multiple honors and awards, including the NIH F32 Postdoctoral Fellowship (2020), the ‘Paper of the Year Award’ from the Journal of Molecular and Cellular Cardiology (2021), the American Heart Association Career Development Award (2023), and the NIH K99/R00 Pathway to Independence Award (2023).
