Pratik J. Patel, O.D., F.A.A.O., is an optometrist at the Wilmer Eye Institute, Johns Hopkins Medicine, in Frederick, Maryland. His practice interests include comprehensive eye care and specialty contact lenses.
After obtaining his undergraduate degree in neuroscience from the University of Pittsburgh, Dr. Patel received his doctorate in optometry from the State University of New York College of Optometry. During optometry school, he was a member of the Beta Sigma Honors Society and Gold Key Honors Society, and was awarded the Billie M. Lyons Memorial Award for Distinguished Service to the College Community. He then completed a contact lens and ocular disease residency at The Ohio State University Havener Eye Institute’s Department of Ophthalmology, where he gained extensive training in fitting specialty contact lenses, with an emphasis on scleral lenses for complex corneal and ocular surface diseases. In addition, he gained clinical experience in several ophthalmology sub-specialties, including anterior segment, glaucoma, retina and neuro-ophthalmology. During this time, he was awarded the American Academy of Optometry Sheldon Wechsler and George W. Mertz Contact Lens Residency Award.
From 2018-2025, Dr. Patel practiced as a clinical instructor and optometric service director at Weill Cornell Medicine/New York Presbyterian Hospital, providing comprehensive eye exams, soft contact lens fittings, medically necessary contact lenses, co-management of refractive and cataract surgeries, and treatment for dry eyes. Dr. Patel has presented and spoken at several meetings and conferences throughout the country.
Dr. Patel is currently accepting new patients for comprehensive eye exams, contact lens exams, refractive surgery co-management, cataract co-management, anterior segment pathology, glucose monitoring, diabetic eye exams and treatment of macular degeneration. In addition, he specializes in complex contact lens fittings for various ocular conditions including keratoconus, post-corneal transplant, severe dry eye, post-surgical corneal ectasia, corneal dystrophies, ocular surface disease, ocular trauma, irregular astigmatism, presbyopia, aphakia and high refractive error.
