Nur Cardakli, M.D., is a glaucoma specialist and the Stephen J. Ryan Co-Assistant Chief of Service for the 2026–27 academic year. Dr. Cardakli is a fellowship-trained glaucoma and cataract surgeon who specializes in the medical, laser and surgical treatment of glaucoma. She performs a broad range of glaucoma surgeries, including traditional incisional glaucoma surgery and minimally invasive glaucoma surgery, as well as cataract surgery.

Dr. Cardakli grew up in central Pennsylvania and received her bachelor’s degree (summa cum laude) in neuroscience from Duke University in 2013. She completed her medical training at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine in 2021, followed by her ophthalmology residency and glaucoma fellowship at the Wilmer Eye Institute, Johns Hopkins Medicine.

Research Summary

Dr. Cardakli’s research interests focus on the clinical and surgical outcomes of patients with glaucoma. Her prior work has studied reoperations of glaucoma surgeries, quality metrics in ophthalmic surgery, and the outcomes of pediatric patients suspected of having glaucoma. Her long-term interests are to gain further expertise in prospective outcomes-based research and clinical trial design, with a goal of designing and running high-quality clinical trials in the clinical and surgical management of glaucoma.

    She contacted me right away after I left a message via My Chart and set up an appointment to be seen that afternoon. She was very thorough and explained her examination very clearly. I was able to start eye drops right away and very thankful for seeing me on short notice.
