Background

Nathan Gray, MD, is an Associate Professor of Palliative Medicine at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. He completed medical school as well as his residency in Internal Medicine at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School. He pursued fellowship training in Hospice and Palliative Medicine at Duke University Medical Center, where he subsequently served on faculty from 2014-2022. At Johns Hopkins, Dr. Gray has been a part of the expansion of palliative services for Sidney Kimmel Cancer Center's Thoracic Oncology Clinic and now serves as associate medical director for outpatient Palliative Care at Johns Hopkins Hospital. He sees patients in both the hospital and clinic setting.  

Dr. Gray's scholarly work examines the role of palliative care in serving vulnerable patient populations as well as the intersection of medicine and humanities. He is specifically interested in the power of graphic art to enhance communication in medicine. He is an award-winning comic artist, and his graphic work has been featured in the Washington Post, British Medical Journal, and Los Angeles Times, along with other outlets.

    Dr. Gray is an excellent listener, great at discerning the health issues at stake and making appropriate recommendations. I always feel I have a say in my treatment plan. Excellent communicator. He is always empathetic and gives me a chance to ask questions. Very efficient.

    Dr Gray is an awesome doc. I was a nurse for for 32 years. I have worked in a BMTU, NICU, of course Med-Surg, Peds, Infusions, Post-partum, etc. I have interacted with many specialists, of course: GI, Rheumatologists, Immunologists, Hem-Oncs...I have great respect for Dr Gray. He's crack-shot smart, compassionate, AVAILABLE, need I say more?.
