Maya Deeb, MD

Maya Deeb is a gastroenterologist and transplant hepatologist specializing in the diagnosis and management of acute and chronic liver diseases, including cholestatic liver disorders, cirrhosis, liver transplantation, and complex hepatobiliary conditions. Her clinical and academic interests span the spectrum of hepatology, with a particular interest in autoimmune liver disease including primary sclerosing cholangitis, primary biliary cholangitis, and autoimmune hepatitis, as well as liver transplantation and complications of chronic liver disease.

Dr. Deeb earned her medical degree from the University of Toronto, where she also completed her residency in internal medicine and fellowship training in adult gastroenterology. She subsequently completed a fellowship in transplant hepatology at The Mount Sinai Hospital in New York and advanced hepatology fellowship training at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine.

As a physician-teacher, Dr. Deeb has authored numerous peer-reviewed publications, review articles, textbook chapters, and invited commentaries on topics including cholestatic liver diseases, liver transplantation, hepatobiliary complications of sickle cell disease, alcohol-related liver disease, and emerging applications of artificial intelligence in transplant medicine.

She served as an editorial fellow for Hepatology, the journal of the American Association for the Study of Liver Diseases, and is a reviewer for the American Journal of Gastroenterology case reports journal.
