Matthew Javitt, M.D., is an assistant professor of ophthalmology and a glaucoma specialist at the Wilmer Eye Institute, Johns Hopkins Medicine. His clinical practice focuses on medical and surgical management of adult and pediatric glaucoma as well as adult cataracts. Dr. Javitt’s surgical practice includes microinvasive glaucoma surgeries (MIGS), glaucoma filtering surgeries, pediatric glaucoma surgery, cataract surgery, and office-based procedures such as laser trabeculoplasty, laser iridotomy and YAG capsulotomy.
After completing a bachelor’s degree in global health and biotechnology at the Walsh School of Foreign Service, Georgetown University, Dr. Javitt earned his medical degree at Ben Gurion University of the Negev in Beersheva, Israel. He spent his intern year at NYU Langone Brooklyn Hospital before completing his ophthalmology residency at the Tschannen Eye Institute, UC Davis in Sacramento. Following residency, Dr. Javitt completed a glaucoma fellowship with the Harvard Department of Ophthalmology at the Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary and Boston Children’s Hospital. Dr. Javitt has a special interest in pediatric glaucoma.
His research focuses on improving detection and monitoring of glaucoma in young children by creating new ways to measure visual fields through gamified testing strategies, which can help inform treatment decisions and improve outcomes.
