Marek Polomsky, MD is an Assistant Professor of Cardiac Surgery at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine and Director of Cardiothoracic Surgery at Suburban Hospital in Bethesda, MD.   

Dr. Polomsky is an accomplished cardiothoracic surgeon with extensive clinical, academic, and leadership experience. His operative experience encompasses a broad range of cardiac and thoracic procedures, most notably complex valve repair and replacement, coronary surgery and multi-arterial revascularization, and aortic and arch reconstruction. 

Dr. Polomsky earned his bachelor’s degree from Northwestern University, and his medical degree from the University of Maryland School of Medicine.   He completed his general surgery training with a dedicated research fellowship at University of Rochester, followed by his cardiothoracic surgery training at Emory University. 

His clinical interests include valve repair and replacement, thoracic aortic aneurysms, coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) including off-pump (beating heart) surgery and multi-arterial grafting, minimally invasive cardiac surgery, transcatheter valve replacement (TAVR), endocarditis, reoperative cardiac surgery, arrhythmia surgery, as well as advanced heart failure surgery including mechanical circulatory support and ECMO.  

He is an active surgeon-scientist and has authored or co-authored multiple peer-reviewed 
publications and has served as principal or sub-investigator on multiple national clinical trials.  He has a strong interest in healthcare patient safety initiatives, quality and outcomes research, and surgical performance education.
