Marcelo Cardarelli is a pediatric thoracic and cardiac surgeon and the interim director of pediatric cardiac surgery at the Blalock-Taussig-Thomas Pediatric and Congenital Heart Center at Johns Hopkins Children’s Center. He specializes in treating diseases affecting the chest, lungs, esophagus and heart for infants, children and adolescents.
Dr. Cardarelli graduated from the University of Buenos Aires, and after completing training in Buenos Aires, he obtained further pediatric cardiac training through fellowships at the Texas Heart Institute, the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia and Boston Children’s Hospital. He then received a Master of Public Health at The Johns Hopkins University.
Dr. Cardarelli was the director of pediatric cardiac surgery at the University of Maryland Children’s Hospital for Children for nearly 18 years. An eight-year tenure followed as a congenital surgeon at Inova Children’s Hospital in Fairfax, Virginia. Dr. Cardarelli also co-founded the Global Cardiac Alliance, a foundation developing pediatric cardiac surgery services in low-income and middle-income countries.
