I drove 3 hours to see Dr. Akst because there are no specialists in my area that treat No Burp syndrome. It was a huge relief to find somebody experienced and knowledgeable on the matter. Was running behind but still thorough, explained everything. He and his assistant perormed excellent prep. She (cant get to or recall her name) was very supportive of me, offering reassurance. I had other issues around this problem but I felt she cared; I didn't feel judged.

Dr Akst is always great--informative, helpful, patient and very professional. His assistant was also wonderful.

Dr. Akst has performed surgery on me several times for subglottic stenosis. These surgeries have been 3 years apart each time. He told me that the repeating interval for my surgery would likely be 3 years going forward, which is what it as been. However, he was not pleased that I didn't come every 3 months to be checked even when it was not likely I would need surgery for 3 years and the test for that is miserable with a camera being inserted down the throat. This time 3 years had passed and he said surgery was not needed yet.
