Kandasamy Ambalavanar, MBBS

Kandasamy Ambalavanar, M.D., (Dr. Ambi), comes to Johns Hopkins Community Physicians with more than 30 years of experience in clinical practice. Prior to joining Johns Hopkins Community Physicians, Dr. Ambi established and managed a solo private practice in Maryland since 2000. In addition to outpatient care, he provided inpatient acute care at the University of Maryland Baltimore Washington Medical Center and long-term care at rehabilitation centers, gaining extensive experience in geriatric patient care. Dr. Ambi is a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons Edinburgh (FRCS Ed) and was trained in general surgery and orthopedic surgery in the United Kingdom before moving to the United States in 1994. He completed his internal medicine residency program at MedStar Harbor Hospital and was awarded Senior Resident of the Year.

With more than 30 years of experience in medicine and surgery, as well as teaching medical students and residents, Dr. Ambi carefully evaluates patients and effectively handles a wide range of complicated clinical situations. He takes a comprehensive approach to managing chronic conditions and keeps his clinical knowledge current through constant review of literature and Continuing Medical Education (CME) courses.

In addition to English, Dr. Ambi can communicate in Tamil and Singhalese. He lives in Ellicott City, Maryland, with his wife.
