About Ji Yi
Primary Academic Title
Associate Professor of Ophthalmology
Background
Ji Yi, Ph.D., is the Boone Pickens Rising Professor of ophthalmology and biomedical engineering at the Wilmer Eye Institute. His research is focused on novel optical techniques for understanding biological systems and pathologies.
Dr. Yi’s research is at the interface of bio photonics, physics, engineering, biology and medicine. By imaging biological systems in various spatial and temporal dimensions with multiple contrasts, he aims to directly visualize their fundamental biological structures and functions. He is also interested in computational tools and data science approaches to build and synthesize biological systems, and reveal unseen phenotypes that can otherwise be difficult to perceive using conventional analysis.
His goal is to apply these new understandings enabled by imaging and computation in improving ophthalmological health care, as well as other major diseases such as cancer and vascular diseases.
Dr. Yi received his M.S. and Ph.D. in bioengineering from Northwestern University.
