Background
Jenny X. Chen is an expert in the treatment of ear conditions including hearing loss, vertigo, vestibular schwannomas (acoustic neuromas), cholesteatomas, cerebrospinal fluid leaks and eardrum perforations. She is trained in minimally invasive, endoscopic surgical approaches to treating the ear and performs surgeries including cochlear implants, bone-anchored hearing aids and stapedectomy. She treats patients of all ages.
Dr. Chen earned her medical degree from Harvard Medical School. She completed residency training in otolaryngology–head and neck surgery at Massachusetts Eye and Ear/Harvard Medical School and advanced fellowship training in otology/neurotology at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine.
Dr. Chen’s research interests are in surgical education, competency-based medical education, as well as health equity for patients with hearing loss. She is the co-director of undergraduate medical education for the Department of Otolaryngology–Head and Neck Surgery at Johns Hopkins.

Great surgeon, explained things well. Only thing I would suggest for improvement would be to start off by saying how are you feeling, how is your pain, how has your recovery been. She just started off with talking about the surgery and next steps.

Dr. Chen is an excellent doctor and was able to identify my health issue quickly. Yet, I had been seeing a Neurologist from INOVA for over a year and he did not know that I was experiencing migraines. I am so glad I found her and will continue to see her.

Dr Chen was amazing! She listened to my concerns, took time to explain everything in detail and was empathetic to my condition and need for surgery. She spent an hour with me and I am confident had I needed longer she would have been more than willing. I am very comfortable with her doing my upcoming surgery.

Dr. Chen did not know I only wanted to have the ear drum suctioned to remove water. she thought I wanted a tube put in. In the end the suction worked and my hearing is much better.

Dr Chen was very thorough as this was my first visit. She made sure to tell me what she thought about my ear at this point. Dr Chen ordered a CT scan and wrote down the directions of the meds I was to take once I picked them up. I liked that!
