Background
Dr. Jennifer Schramm is a pediatric cardiac intensivist at Johns Hopkins Children’s Center in Baltimore, Maryland, as well as an assistant professor at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. She specializes in providing critical care services to infants, children and young adults who have structural and functional heart disease.
Dr. Schramm graduated from the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health. She then completed a residency in pediatrics at the Washington University School of Medicine at St. Louis Children’s Hospital and a fellowship in pediatric cardiology at Children’s National Hospital. She also completed a fellowship at Stanford University Medical Center in cardiac critical care medicine prior to starting at Johns Hopkins Children’s Center.

Research Summary
Dr. Schramm’s research interests include data science, necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC) in children with congenital heart disease, pulmonary hypertension and mechanical circulatory support. She has published case series describing children with pulmonary vein stenosis from an international surgical database and children with ventricular assist devices treated with pulmonary vasodilators. Additionally, she has published in JACC: Case Reports and Cardiology in the Young, and authored a textbook chapter on cardiac effects of neuromuscular disease.
Her active projects include using artificial intelligence and machine learning to discover modifiable risk factors in children with congenital heart disease who develop NEC, pulmonary hypertension biomarkers, and a QI project to introduce pulmonary vasodilators in children with ventricular assist devices. In addition, she is involved in a multi-institutional research collaborative for cardiac intensive care.
