Background

Dr. Dean is a pediatric hematologist-oncologist at the Johns Hopkins All Children’s Cancer & Blood Disorders Institute in St. Petersburg, Florida. She joined the hospital staff in 2021 and is currently director of the Adolescent and Young Adult (AYA) and Survivorship Programs and co-lead of the Leukemia/Lymphoma Program. She also serves as the Children’s Oncology Group (COG) Site Principal Investigator for Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital.

Dr. Dean has extensive experience in survivorship care, with a longstanding focus on long-term follow-up and quality of life in pediatric oncology patients. She is an assistant professor in the Department of Oncology at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine.

Prior to joining Johns Hopkins All Children’s, Dr. Dean was an attending physician with Pediatric Specialists of Virginia in the Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders and with Children’s National Hospital. She served as director of the Long-Term Follow-Up Program at both Pediatric Specialists of Virginia and Children’s National Hospital, and as director of the Neuro-Oncology Program at Pediatric Specialists of Virginia. She was also a senior physician on the leukemia and lymphoma team. Additionally, she held an academic appointment as assistant professor in the Department of Pediatrics at The George Washington University School of Medicine and Health Sciences.

Dr. Dean has published peer-reviewed articles, authored book chapters, and lectured nationally and internationally. Her clinical and research interests include the impact of physical activity on overall function, cardiac function, and quality of life in patients with leukemia and lymphoma.

She earned her medical degree from Wake Forest University School of Medicine in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. She completed her internship and residency in pediatrics and her fellowship in pediatric hematology-oncology at St. Louis Children’s Hospital/Washington University in St. Louis.
