Background

Dr. Jason Zhao earned his M.D. degree from the University of Colorado School of Medicine and his Ph.D. degree in physics/biophysics from the University of Chicago. He went on to complete a surgery internship at David Grant Medical Center and a Radiology residency at the San Antonio Uniformed Services Health Education Consortium before completing a body imaging fellowship at The Johns Hopkins Hospital.

His subspecialty is body imaging, with expertise in computed tomography (CT), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), and ultrasound. He completed fellowship training in ultrasound-guided procedures, including biopsies of the liver, kidney, thyroid, and lymph nodes. His clinical expertise includes the detection and evaluation of pancreatic and small bowel tumors. He leads a weekly multidisciplinary conference dedicated to the diagnosis and management of pancreatic cystic lesions, fostering collaboration among specialists to optimize patient care.

In addition to his clinical practice, he is actively involved in innovative research in collaboration with the Department of Gastroenterology. His recent projects focus on investigating early dynamic changes in small bowel hypomotility in patients with Crohn’s disease using advanced magnetic resonance enterography (MRE) techniques and novel image analysis software, with the goal of improving disease detection, characterization, and quantification.
