Background
Dr. Jan Hendrik Beumer has a Doctorate of Pharmacy (PharmD) and a Doctorate of Philosophy (PhD) from the University of Utrecht, Utrecht, The Netherlands. He is a Diplomat of the American Board of Toxicology. Currently a Professor of Oncology (PAR) at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, he previously, held the title of Professor of Pharmaceutical Sciences with tenure with a secondary appointment in the School of Medicine and the Clinical and Translational Science Institute at the University of Pittsburgh, and co-leading the UPMC Hillman Cancer Center's CCSG Cancer Therapeutics Program.
Within the Johns Hopkins University's Sidney Kimmel Comprehensive Cancer Center, he is Director of the Analytical Pharmacology Core, and designs, executes, and supervises and pharmacological studies of anti-cancer drugs covering the entire spectrum from preclinical to clinical phase III studies.
Dr. Beumer has been PI of NCI Preclinical Pharmacology Contracts, and has had leadership roles in the NCI Experimental Therapeutics Clinical Trials Network (ETCTN) as PI of UM1 clinical consortia grants and U24 PK resource consortia grants. Within the NCI National Clinical Trials Network (NCTN) he functions as the PK liaison for the ALLIANCE and NRG. He served as co-chair of the NCI/CTEP Investigational Drug Steering Committee (IDSC), chairs the IDSC Pharmacology Task Force, and is the US Editor-in-chief of Cancer Chemotherapy and Pharmacology.
Dr. Beumer has been PI and chair of several clinical trials and has published over 200 manuscripts in peer-reviewed journals. He has been the recipient of the UPMC Hillman Cancer Center’s “Merrill J. Egorin Excellence in Scientific Leadership Award”, as well as the National Cancer Institute “Michaele C. Christian Oncology Development Lectureship and Award”.

Research Summary
Dr. Beumer's research focus is on the development and evaluation of new therapies and combinations for the treatment of cancer. Areas of particular interest and expertise are pharmacologically oriented studies such as drug interaction studies, mass balance, organ dysfunction, etc.
