Background
Ivo M.B. Francischetti, M.D., Ph.D., is an Assistant Professor of Pathology at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. His areas of clinical expertise include hematology, coagulation, and hematopathology. Dr. Francischetti received his M.D. and Ph.D. from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro. After moving to the United States, he worked as a staff scientist at the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), National Institutes of Health (NIH), where his research focused on vascular biology, vector biology, molecular biology, and cerebral malaria. He completed residency training in anatomic and clinical pathology at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine/Montefiore Medical Center in New York, followed by a fellowship in hematopathology at the National Cancer Institute. Dr. Francischetti joined the faculty at Johns Hopkins in July 2020 and became Director of the Hematology and Coagulation Laboratory in 2021. His research interests include the application of clinical coagulation and hematopathology to the study of bone marrow and hematolymphoid neoplasms. He has published numerous peer-reviewed articles, review papers, and book chapters, and previously served as Chair of an educational subcommittee of the International Society on Thrombosis and Haemostasis (ISTH). He is currently a member of several hematology and pathology professional societies.
