Irina Tunnage, DO, MHS

Dr. Irina Tunnage is an Assistant Professor of Gynecologic Oncology in the Department of Gynecology and Obstetrics at Johns Hopkins Medicine. She is a gynecologic oncologist specializing in the comprehensive care of women with gynecologic malignancies. Known for her surgical precision, thoughtful clinical judgment, and unwavering commitment to her patients, Dr. Tunnage delivers highly individualized, full-spectrum cancer care.

Her clinical expertise includes the management of ovarian, uterine, and cervical cancers, with a focus on complex cytoreductive surgery and minimally invasive techniques. She provides the full continuum of oncologic care, including radical surgery, systemic therapy, and access to clinical trials. She has a particular interest in advanced surgical therapies for peritoneal surface malignancies and has been instrumental in the development and expansion of a hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy (HIPEC) program, offering this highly specialized treatment to select patients with advanced or recurrent disease. Her approach emphasizes precise, effective treatment while minimizing recovery time and preserving quality of life.

Dr. Tunnage is deeply committed to patient-centered care. Dr. Tunnage has received multiple honors recognizing excellence in teaching and surgical care and is actively involved in the education and mentorship of trainees. She is a Fellow of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists and the American College of Surgeons.

She completed her undergraduate and graduate training at Johns Hopkins University and the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, followed by her medical degree at Touro University California. She completed her residency in obstetrics and gynecology at MedStar Washington Hospital Center/Georgetown University Hospital and fellowship training in gynecologic oncology at New York University.
