Program Director, Johns Hopkins Pain Medicine Fellowship (ACGME) (2021-2024)
Primary Academic Title
Associate Professor of Clinical Anesthesiology and Critical Care Medicine
Background
Dr. Eric J. Wang, MD, FASA is an Associate Professor in the Department of Anesthesiology and Critical Care Medicine. He is a member of the Pain Medicine Division and the Bayview Medical Center Division of Anesthesiology. Dr. Wang completed his undergraduate studies at the University of Pennsylvania, graduating magna cum laude. He then graduated from medical school at the Medical College of Georgia.
For his clinical training, Dr. Wang completed a year of General Surgery residency at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, during which time he was elected by his peers to serve on the Residents’ Executive Council in the Department of Surgery. Dr. Wang then completed his residency in Anesthesiology and Critical Care Medicine at the Johns Hopkins Hospital, and he was recognized by the Zenobia Casey, MD Citizenship Award for professionalism and team-based clinical care. Following this, Dr. Wang completed a year of subspecialty fellowship training in Pain Medicine at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania.
As a Pain Medicine-trained Anesthesiologist, Dr. Wang seeks to provide safe, high-quality care in the operating rooms and in the outpatient clinic. In his Pain Medicine practice, Dr. Wang offers a multimodal approach to pain management that combines physical therapy, medication management, and interventional procedures. He strongly believes that successful pain care requires an understanding of each patient’s individual goals and overall health, and that although there are limitations to what medications and procedures alone can do, creating an individualized approach and shared treatment plan can optimize outcomes.
Dr. Wang’s research interests include the prevention and treatment of chronic post-surgical pain and other types of neuropathic pain.
