Background

Neurologist Elizabeth Fracica specializes in the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of cerebrovascular disease and the diagnosis and treatment of neurovestibular and ocular motor disorders. Her clinical practice focuses on care for patients with cerebrovascular disorders as well as treatment of patients with disorders of the brainstem, cerebellum, and cranial nerves, including double vision, nystagmus and vertigo.

Dr. Fracica has been involved in several initiatives focusing on institutional clinical process and guideline development to help improve care for patients with dizziness and stroke. She was also involved in the creation of a novel quality measure to rate patient harm due to emergency department misdiagnosis of dizzy patients with stroke, called the Avoid H.A.R.M.—ED Stroke/Dizziness measure

Her research has been published in high-ranking medical journals, including the Journal of the American Medical Association and Frontiers in Stroke, and she has presented her work at national conferences. She is a member of the American Heart Association and the American Academy of Neurology.

Dr. Fracica earned her medical degree from the Mayo Clinic Alix School of Medicine in Rochester, Minnesota. She completed an internship in internal medicine at Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center, followed by residency training in neurology at The Johns Hopkins Hospital. Her fellowship training includes a vestibular and oculo-motor oto-neurology fellowship at Johns Hopkins and a vascular neurology fellowship at Massachusetts General Hospital. Dr. Fracica holds a master’s degree in public health from the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. She joined the Johns Hopkins Department of Neurology faculty in 2024.

    Dr. Elizabeth Fracica is a competent, warm, and thoughtful professional. I was very fortunate that she diagnosed me with acute vestibular neuritis and was able to treat me. She was through with her questions and easy to talk to as I navigated the illness. I would recommend her to my friends and family.

    Dr. Fracica had thoroughly reviewed imaging studies prior to my appointment and was well acquainted with the results. She listened carefully to updated information and care. She explained an area of concern and her rationale for further monitoring and imaging. She gave me an office exam with clear directions. She did this with a friendly and professional demeanor.

    Dr Fracica was so very caring, kind,Competent, compassionate and professional. She did a thorough verbal and physical assessment, gave comprehensive differential diagnosis possibilities and ordered appropriate tests (all with in-depth, understandable explanations).I am grateful to have her as part of my health care team to ascertain cause of presyncopal (recent hx) and syncope (past hx) episodes.
