I sought Dr. Carey out to get a second opinion. He was recommended by my home-town neuro-opthalmologist and lived up to his reputation. He was incredibly thorough. I appreciate that he spent so much time with me in person -- and going through the many test results in my file. He is especially helpful that he uses straight-forward language to explain challenging medical issues...I should mention that it was also very easy to communicate with him in advance through the mychart messaging system.

I am new w/Dr. Carey as of last July (2025). I had been seeing another JHU retinologist after having a blood disorder diagnosed by my excellent, long time (two+ decades) JHU ophthalmologist in a routine eye exam two years ago. I switched to Dr. Carey last year since he is closer (i.e. Than Greenspring or Baltimore), and I was not getting the ""after visit"" feedback I thought as an educated, interested patient I wanted, from the other retinologist. Dr. Carey is providing that level of visit feedback.

Carey was running 1.5 hours late for my appointment. I sat in exam chair waiting, and waiting, and waiting. NOBODY came into the room to tell me about the delay. Because I did not know when the doctor would come into my room, I could not make other arrangements for appointments I had scheduled for later in the day. Those appointments were long scheduled with doctors who care for my husband who has ALS. I missed my ride as the driver waited an hour but could wait no longer. I am livid and not likely to return to Carey.
