Johns Hopkins Physician
Background
Dr. J. David Peske is an Assistant Professor of Pathology at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. He earned his MD at the University of Virginia and completed Anatomic Pathology residency and Hematopathology fellowship at Johns Hopkins. His clinical expertise includes the diagnosis of hematologic diseases, and in particular the immunophenotyping of leukemias and lymphomas by flow cytometry. Dr. Peske serves as the Director of the Clinical Flow Cytometry Laboratory at The Johns Hopkins Hospital, which performs quantitative CD34 counts, T cell subset analysis, and qualitative immunophenotyping for tens of thousands of samples yearly including for the detection of measurable residual disease (MRD) in patients with T- and B-ALL.
Dr. Peske’s research expertise is in T cell immunology and MHC antigen processing. He earned his PhD at the University of Virginia with Dr. Victor Engelhard, and completed a postdoctoral research fellowship at Johns Hopkins with Dr. Nilabh Shastri and Dr. Scheherazade Sadegh-Nasseri. His research lab studies the function of ER resident aminopeptidases (ERAPs) in the generation of peptide antigens for presentation on classical and non-classical MHC-I molecules. Variant isoforms of ERAPs are linked to susceptibility to infection, autoimmune disease, and responsiveness to cancer immunotherapy. The lab uses novel in vivo transgenic model systems to investigate these pathways to augment T cell immunosurveillance of hematologic and other cancers.
