About David Gracias

Background

David Gracias is a Professor at the Johns Hopkins University, where he has been on the faculty for over 17 years. He has a primary appointment in Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering and secondary appointments in Chemistry, Materials Science and Engineering, and Oncology and is an affiliated member of the Laboratory for Computational Sensing and Robotics (LCSR) and the Sidney Kimmel Comprehensive Cancer Center (SKCCC). He received his doctorate from UC Berkeley and was a post-doctoral fellow at Harvard University. His multi-disciplinary research focuses on the design, assembly, and characterization of micro/nanostructured 3D materials, devices, and integrated systems of broad relevance to electronics, optics, robotics, and medicine. Prof. Gracias has co-authored over 150 papers in prestigious journals such as Science and holds 33 issued patents. His notable awards include the NSF CAREER Award, NIH Director's New Innovator Award, Beckman Young Investigator Award, Camille Dreyfus Teacher-Scholar Award, and the Friedrich Wilhelm Bessel Research Award (Humboldt Foundation, Germany). He is an elected fellow of the IEEE, AAAS, AIMBE, and RSC.
