Craig Alan Miller, MD

Craig A. Miller, M.D., is an orthopaedic surgeon specializing in the treatment and prevention of shoulder injuries and conditions. He has spent the majority of his 20-plus year career in private practice as a sports medicine specialist. Dr. Miller joins the Johns Hopkins Department of Orthopaedic Surgery as an assistant professor in the shoulder and elbow division.

His surgical expertise includes arthroscopic (minimally invasive) shoulder procedures, stabilization surgery for dislocations, rotator cuff repair, total shoulder replacement and complex fracture care. The first surgeon in the mid-Atlantic region to perform computer-navigated total shoulder replacement, Dr. Miller has treated more patients with this advanced technique than any other surgeon in the region. He also uses nonsurgical treatments when appropriate, working with each patient to develop a tailored plan to restore function while supporting a safe, confident return to the activities they enjoy.

Dr. Miller earned his medical degree with distinction from the George Washington University School of Medicine and completed an orthopaedic surgery residency at the Hospital for Joint Diseases Orthopaedic Institute in New York. He then completed a sports medicine fellowship at the Kerlan-Jobe Orthopaedic Clinic in Southern California, a nationally recognized center known for caring for professional athletes and teams. During his fellowship, Dr. Miller cared for the LA Lakers (NBA), LA Dodgers (MLB), LA Lightning (NHL) and Anaheim Mighty Ducks (NHL), as well as three 2001–02 championship teams: LA Angels (MLB), LA Galaxy (MLS) and LA Sparks (WNBA).

Consistently recognized as a top doctor by Washingtonian magazine and in Bethesda Magazine’s Best of Bethesda, Dr. Miller has served as an assistant team physician for the Washington Nationals (MLB) and as a team physician for several local high schools.

In addition to caring for patients, Dr. Miller is an active educator, researcher and speaker on shoulder instability, shoulder replacement, sports injuries and injury prevention. He is a member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, a candidate member of the American Shoulder and Elbow Society, and has contributed to numerous peer-reviewed publications and professional presentations.

Outside of medicine, Dr. Miller enjoys biking, fitness, reading, spending time on the water and entertaining family and friends, often around his BBQ smoker.
