Background

Dr. Graybill joined Johns Hopkins University following a 21 year career in the United States Army as a general surgeon, trauma surgeon, and burn surgeon.  Dr. Graybill became passionate about trauma care when caring for injured services members from the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan while in residency at Walter Reed Army Medical Center and the National Naval Medical Center, the primary destination for combat casualties. He subsequently completed burn, trauma, surgical critical care, and acute care fellowship, deployed 6 times, include 2 combat tours in Iraq and 2 in Afghanistan.  He worked extensively with the Joint Trauma System as the Director of their Education and Training Branch, which was Congressionally directed to oversee the standardization of trauma care delivery within the Department of Defense.  His last military assignment was as the Trauma Medical Director of Walter Reed National Military Medical Center before retiring at the end of August 2026.
