Cecilia Kwak is a neonatologist in the Johns Hopkins Children’s Center Division of Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine. She specializes in the management of premature babies or newborns with high-risk or complex health conditions. She has a specialized interest in health communications, particularly parent-provider communications and complex care coordination. Dr. Kwak graduated from the University of Michigan Medical School. She then completed a residency in pediatrics and a fellowship in neonatal-perinatal medicine at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine.

Research Summary

Dr. Kwak is participating in health communications research focused on parent-provider interactions, with emphasis on the development of tools to improve communications in the prenatal and postnatal period. She is also involved in improving clinical guidelines regarding the management of extremely pre-term infants in the neonatal intensive care unit and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams on quality improvement related to reduction of bronchopulmonary dysplasia in pre-term infants. Dr. Kwak serves as career development chair of the Trainees and Early Career Neonatologists group, which is part of the American Academy of Pediatrics Section on Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine. She is currently working on a grant-funded project to develop an early counseling video for parents of preterm infants at risk of developing bronchopulmonary dysplasia.
