Research Summary

Brittany Schwarz’s clinical interest focuses on neurodevelopmental outcomes of former premature infants and high-risk neonates. She is part of a multidisciplinary team at Kennedy Krieger Institute that provides developmental follow-up to NICU graduates, collects outcome data for multiple NICU-based research initiatives, and works closely with the Cerebral Palsy Foundation to implement new measures leading to earlier diagnosis of cerebral palsy. Dr. Schwarz’s scholarly focus is medical education. She currently serves as an associate program director for the Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine Fellowship Program, and is pursuing a Master of Education in the Health Professions. She served as the Johns Hopkins University site PI for a national neonatology curriculum randomized controlled trial, “Comparison of a ‘flipped’ classroom methodology to traditional instructional techniques for neonatal-perinatal medicine fellows: a national prospective study.” Dr. Schwarz is currently serving as the editor for the high-risk neonate curriculum. This is part of a large-scale curriculum design project for neurodevelopmental disabilities led by Mary Leppert at Kennedy Krieger Institute, with plans to publish and make available to training programs at a national level. Dr. Schwarz is also associate program director of the Neonatal-Perinatal Fellowship Program.
