Background

Dr. Rosenberg is a physician-scientist and practicing renal pathologist at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. During residency he worked in the laboratory of Dr. Michael Emmert-Buck to collaboratively develop a new iteration of a microdissection technique called expression microdissection (PLoS One. 2016). The goal of this tool was to improve rapidity and throughput of cell-specific and subcellular microdissection for downstream bioanalyte analysis. Also at the NIH Dr. Rosenberg developed an interest in primary kidney diseases and explored these areas in the laboratories of Dr. Jeffrey Kopp and in collaboration with Dr. Moshe Levi. It is here that he gained expertise in in vitro and in vivo models of kidney diseases of focal and segmental glomerulosclerosis, diabetes, obesity-related glomerulopathy and microangiopathic injuries. Dr. Rosenberg enjoys tackling complex kidney centered problems using a diverse array of molecular, cell biological and analytical tools. His research group includes a postdoctoral fellow and a research specialist. He also has taught medical students and residents across various levels and takes these opportunities to ignite future physician scientist's excitement to pursue a deeper interest in mechanisms of disease.

Avi completed his M.D., Ph.D. at Stony Brook University which included PhD research in the Laboratory of Senthil Muthuswamy at Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory studying the role of polarity regulators in breast development and neoplasia.
