Ashok Laxman Gowda, MD

Dr. Ashok Gowda is an orthopaedic surgeon affiliated with Sibley Memorial Hospital and Holy Cross Hospital. Dr. Gowda has a private practice in Silver Spring, Md. and Greenbelt, Md. 

Dr. Gowda has an expertise in shoulder, elbow and hand surgery, as well as upper and lower extremity sports medicine.

Dr. Gowda earned his medical degree through the combined accelerated medical program at Thomas Jefferson Medical College. He completed an orthopaedic surgery residency at New York Medical College, where he served as chief resident. Following residency, Dr. Gowda completed a shoulder and elbow fellowship at William Beaumont Hospital. During this time, Dr. Gowda assisted in the care of the Detroit Lions football team, Oakland University Athletics Division 1 basketball and soccer teams and local high school football teams. Following his shoulder and elbow fellowship, Dr. Gowda was granted a scholarship from the international orthopaedic society, AO Foundation, to complete additional training in hand surgery at R. Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center. 

Dr. Gowda has authored numerous scientific peer-reviewed articles and book chapters, and has presented locally and nationally. He has served as a lab instructor for orthopaedic surgeons in training, has contributed health-related articles to local newspapers and has served as a medical journal reviewer. Additionally, he has worked with various volunteer causes, including health care screenings in New York City and hand surgery in Honduras.
