Background

Dr. Arpita Jajoo is an Assistant Chief of Service (Chief Resident) in the Department of Medicine at Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center. As an Assistant Chief of Service, she is engaged in program leadership, scheduling, resident supervision and education while attending on medical wards teams, and recruitment. She serves on the Resident Steering Committee, promotes pathways to subspecialty careers through near-peer mentorship, and is involved in community health education through the Lay Health Educator Program.

Dr. Jajoo’s clinical and research interests focus on gastroenterology, with a particular emphasis on pancreatic diseases and pancreatology. She conducts translational and clinical research aimed at improving the diagnosis and management of pancreatobiliary disorders. Her work includes the development of machine learning and large language model–based decision support tools for choledocholithiasis, studies of vascular complications of pancreatitis, and investigations into optimizing the management of pancreatic duct stones and pancreatic neoplasia. She has also contributed to research in inflammatory bowel disease and has authored numerous peer-reviewed publications and national presentations. She is a National Pancreas Foundation Fellow and is involved in multicenter collaborations to advance evidence-based care in pancreatic disease.

Dr. Jajoo is committed to delivering comprehensive, patient-centered care that integrates medical, endoscopic, nutritional, behavioral, and surgical approaches to pancreatic disease. She is passionate about medical education, mentorship, and the application of innovative technologies to improve clinical decision-making and healthcare delivery.

She received her Bachelor of Science in Biology, summa cum laude, from Tufts University and earned her Doctor of Medicine from Tufts University School of Medicine. She completed her residency training in Internal Medicine at Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center, where she received the Miller Coulson Academy of Clinical Excellence Award in recognition of her commitment to patient care, teaching, professionalism, and humanism. She plans to pursue fellowship training in Gastroenterology.
