Background

Alexandra Forrest is a maternal-fetal medicine physician in the Department of Gynecology and Obstetrics at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. She earned her medical degree from the Drexel University College of Medicine, where she graduated Alpha Omega Alpha, and completed her residency in obstetrics and gynecology at Emory University School of Medicine, where she served as a chief administrative resident. She completed fellowship training in maternal-fetal medicine at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine.

Dr. Forrest’s clinical and research interests include severe maternal morbidity, maternal critical care and multidisciplinary approaches to improving outcomes in high-risk pregnancies. Her scholarly work spans fetal therapy, placenta accreta spectrum, obstetric quality improvement, and the maternal and perinatal implications of infectious disease in pregnancy, including COVID-19. Her work on the management of twin anemia-polycythemia sequence (TAPS) was recognized with the Society for Maternal-Fetal Medicine (SMFM) Scholarship for Research in TAPS/Monochorionic Twins at the 2026 SMFM Annual Pregnancy Meeting. She has authored numerous peer-reviewed publications and book chapters in maternal-fetal medicine and obstetrics.

Actively involved in medical education, simulation training and quality improvement initiatives, Dr. Forrest has served on institutional and national committees focused on patient safety and quality improvement in obstetrics, and is a former member of the SMFM Patient Safety and Quality Committee.
