Background
Abdulaziz F. Ahmed, M.D., is an orthopaedic surgeon specializing in shoulder, elbow and sports medicine. He provides expert surgical and nonsurgical care for a wide range of conditions, including rotator cuff tears, shoulder arthritis, shoulder instability, elbow injuries and sports-related knee injuries like meniscus tears and anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) tears.
Dr. Ahmed’s surgical expertise includes shoulder replacement, rotator cuff repair, shoulder stabilization, shoulder and elbow fracture repair, elbow replacement, elbow ligament repair/reconstruction, elbow arthroscopy, supportive biologic therapies, ACL reconstruction and meniscus repair.
He is particularly experienced in complex shoulder reconstruction, including tendon transfers for failed shoulder surgery, shoulder nerve injuries and irreparable rotator cuff tears. He is also interested in the management of scapula disorders such as scapular winging or scapulothoracic abnormal motion, where he employs treatments such as tendon transfers, scapulothoracic fusion and arthroscopic decompression for nerve entrapment around the shoulder and shoulder blade.
Dr. Ahmed earned his medical degree from Jordan University of Science and Technology and was later conferred his M.D. from the University of the State of New York in Albany. He completed his ACGME-I accredited orthopaedic surgery residency at Hamad General Hospital/Weill Cornell Medicine-Qatar, Doha, Qatar.
Dr. Ahmed is triple fellowship-trained in shoulder and elbow surgery and sports medicine. Dr. Ahmed first completed a shoulder surgery fellowship at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine with Drs. Edward McFarland and Uma Srikumaran. He then completed a complex shoulder and elbow fellowship at Massachusetts General Hospital/Harvard Medical School, training with Drs. Jon JP Warner and Bassem Elhassan and focusing on advanced treatments for complex shoulder and scapular conditions. He concluded his training with a shoulder surgery and sports medicine fellowship at the University of Colorado School of Medicine in Denver/Boulder, where he treated athletes from recreational to professional levels. During his time in Colorado, he served as an assistant team physician for multiple professional sports teams, including the Denver Nuggets (NBA), Colorado Avalanche (NHL), Colorado Mammoth (NLL) and Colorado Rapids (MLS). He was also the assistant team physician for the Colorado Buffaloes college football team.
Dr. Ahmed has co-authored more than 60 peer-reviewed research papers and book chapters, and has presented his work nationally and internationally on topics such as shoulder arthroplasty, instability and tendon transfer techniques.
His research focuses on improving outcomes in shoulder surgeries, such as shoulder replacement and rotator cuff repair, and involves performing biomechanical studies to refine surgical techniques. He holds several research and leadership positions in leading sports medicine organizations as well as editorial positions in prominent orthopaedic journals.
Outside of his clinical practice, Dr. Ahmed is dedicated to educating and mentoring early-career orthopaedic clinicians.
In his free time, Dr. Ahmed enjoys traveling and staying active by working out and playing golf and tennis. He is also an avid fan of soccer and F1 racing.

The disc with images I brought from out of state did not have the MRI images. Dr. Ahmed told me to contact the out of state provider to see if I could get them electronically and come back. He reassured me not yo worry. When I returned, he looked at the images on my laptop, which was the only way I could get them, and he discussed what he saw. He was reassuring and kind through the entire experience.

This provider is the epitome of what an orthopedic surgeon should be. I got a Cortizone shot in the knee and it was my first one and he made me so comfortable. I did not even know that the shot happened.
