Reza Salman Roghani, MD

Reza Roghani is a physical medicine and rehabilitation physician with more than 20 years of experience in interventional spine and pain management. He specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of musculoskeletal and nerve-related pain, including back and neck pain, peripheral neuropathy and related disorders. His expertise includes minimally invasive and image-guided techniques such as radiofrequency ablation, peripheral nerve and spinal cord stimulation, minimally invasive spine decompression, vertebral augmentation and basi-vertebral nerve ablation, as well as regenerative therapies.

Dr. Roghani earned his medical degree from Shahid Beheshti University of Medical Sciences and completed a residency in physical medicine and rehabilitation at the Shiraz University of Medical Sciences in Iran. After, he finished an advanced spine and musculoskeletal research fellowship at Mayo Clinic. Dr. Roghani went on to earn a doctorate at the Karolinska Institute in Sweden. During his doctoral training, he served as associate professor of pain and physical medicine and program director of the Spine and Spinal Cord Injury Fellowship at Shahid Beheshti University of Medical Sciences in Tehran, Iran. After finishing the doctoral program, Dr. Roghani came to the U.S. to complete a second physical medicine and rehabilitation residency at Larkin Community Hospital/NOVA Southeastern University and a fellowship in pain medicine at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine.

His current academic and research interests include restorative and wearable neuromodulation technology, diabetic pain syndromes, vertebrogenic pain (chronic lower back pain caused by damaged vertebral endplates), discogenic pain, innovative interventional approaches for chronic spinal and neuropathic disorders, ultrasound-guided peripheral nerve interventions, performance art medicine and neurofunctional restoration.

Dr. Roghani has contributed extensively to academic research and education in pain medicine, rehabilitation, musculoskeletal ultrasound and peripheral nerve disorders. He is an editor of the textbook Video Atlas of Neuromusculoskeletal Ultrasound, published by Springer Nature.
