Judith Goldstein, O.D., F.A.A.O., is an optometrist specializing in vision loss in older adults and a leader in research and education at the Johns Hopkins Wilmer Eye Institute.

Bringing years of clinical experience in low vision rehabilitation, Dr. Goldstein joined the Wilmer Eye Institute in 2006 as Director of Clinical Services with a focus on program-building efforts. Recognizing the growing need for physicians trained in this essential specialty of care, she established the Fellowship Training Program in 2008 with the aim of expanding the number of dedicated low vision experts in the field to care for the growing population with vision loss. This unique program has trained nine low vision physician-scientist and remains the only program of its kind in the U.S.

An Associate Professor of Ophthalmology and Rehabilitation Medicine at the Wilmer Eye Institute at The Johns Hopkins School of Medicine, Dr. Goldstein is the Director of the Lions Vision Research and Rehabilitation Center and previously led the Low Vision Research Network, a collaborative network whose research focused on measurement of low vision rehabilitation outcomes. Dr. Goldstein’s current work focuses on issues of caring for older adults with vision loss and on improving health systems and services delivery to the growing population in need.

    Dr. Goldstein is outstanding in her field. She is very thorough and interacted with me as her patient to ensure my needs are identified and taken care of. She listened carefully to fully understand my vision issues. Her skills and caring ways always leads to the best outcome and a feeling of confidence for me that I had the best exam possible to make positive decisions for my eye health.

    Dr Goldstein appreciated my need to see her ASSP. She squeezed me into her schedule and called me the night before when snow was expected and threatened to make travel difficult. She wanted to assure me that she would do her best to see me the next day.

    I have had glasses since I was a child. As my vision problems Increased, especially now that I have glaucoma with vision loss, I have had great difficulty getting prescriptions for glasses that are comfortable and that don't cause other vision Issues. Dr.Goldstein has patiently and consistently worked with me to understand my vision issues and I finally have glasses that are comfortable and that improve my vision. I am very grateful for her patience and efforts to find the best way to help me to see the best I can given my vision issues.

    Dr. Goldstein is a very caring, professional person who takes the care of her patients seriously. Her techniques and knowledge provided a thorough exam, resulting in a prescription for glasses to meet the needs for me. Her expertise was needed to develop the right outcome for my unique situation (glaucoma, astigmatism, blind spots in both eyes, ghost vision, and drains in both eyes. Well done Dr. Goldstein!

    I felt genuinely cared for by the nurse/assistant. She took the time to thoroughly examine and assess my vision concerns, and thoughtfully walked me through the latest tools available to support independent and comfortable living. Her gentle, attentive approach left a lasting impression. The doctor also provided helpful information about savings options related to my disability, which added even more value to the visit.
