Background

Amanda West, MD, MPH, is an Instructor in the Department of Emergency Medicine. She earned her medical degree from Harvard Medical School and completed her Emergency Medicine residency at the University of Washington, where she served as Chief Resident. She also holds a Master of Public Health in Global Health from Tufts University School of Medicine and completed a Certificate in Implementation Science and Research Practice at Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. Prior to medical school, Dr. West served as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Guyana, where she worked on community-based initiatives focused on HIV prevention, mental health, and gender-based violence. 

Dr. West's research focuses on applying implementation science to improve the health of vulnerable populations, particularly at the intersection of sexual and reproductive health, HIV prevention, substance use, and emergency care. She currently works on research projects in both Baltimore and South Africa aimed at expanding access to HIV testing, pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP), and trauma-informed care services.
